I read this because I thought I had to, but it turns out that most of the important information was relayed to me by my extremely efficient care team。 A good bit of it also came through my weekly Babylist updates。 The other two books I read to prepare for birth gave me the info and science I actually wanted, and I was pretty confident that they had sufficiently prepared me as best as books can。 My edition of WTE was published in 2016 and was already somewhat outdated back then。 Now, reading it i I read this because I thought I had to, but it turns out that most of the important information was relayed to me by my extremely efficient care team。 A good bit of it also came through my weekly Babylist updates。 The other two books I read to prepare for birth gave me the info and science I actually wanted, and I was pretty confident that they had sufficiently prepared me as best as books can。 My edition of WTE was published in 2016 and was already somewhat outdated back then。 Now, reading it in 2020/21, I’ve found that even the recommended hospital guidelines are inaccurate in this edition。 I’m fortunate to have a hospital care team that gave me a condensed packet of relevant formation at the beginning of my pregnancy (which was updated between my first (loss) and second (current) pregnancies, only months apart)。 They also provided virtual courses that gave me more detailed information and preparation strategies。 I’ve found the whole WTE community to be a bit off putting throughout my time being pregnant, so I’m glad to be done with this book。 Would I recommend it to another pregnant person? Eh, it’s not going to hurt to read, as long as you verify the information with your doctor or midwife。 Will I use the rest of the series? Nope! 。。。more

I'm in my 7th month of my first pregnancy, and I've found this book more helpful than the pregnancy apps。 I could watch endless YouTube videos for advice, but I'd be there forever。 Even the pregnancy forums became useless in comparison when I realized much of the questions were answered in this book, or I was better off asking my midwife。It's convenient to keep around during pregnancy if there's a question or a minor symptom or problem arises。It may be a good idea to have the most updated versio I'm in my 7th month of my first pregnancy, and I've found this book more helpful than the pregnancy apps。 I could watch endless YouTube videos for advice, but I'd be there forever。 Even the pregnancy forums became useless in comparison when I realized much of the questions were answered in this book, or I was better off asking my midwife。It's convenient to keep around during pregnancy if there's a question or a minor symptom or problem arises。It may be a good idea to have the most updated version possible。 My edition was published in 2016, so it was relevant enough。 。。。more

Technically I haven’t did I he’s the entire book, I went into labor and gave birth before thoroughly reading the last couple of chapters。 Though I had skimmed through most of it while looking up various questions I had。 Very informative for first time pregnancy, and I’m sure great for subsequent pregnancies, since each pregnancy can be different。

Because this book is mostly structured by pregnancy timeline, I faithfully read it month by month, week by week。 But baby doesn't care about my progress with the book and made an entry in week 37, right before I got to read the delivery part。 I rushed into the hospital knowing very little about induction and C-section, probably the most important information that could have brought me peace of mind in the most intense moment of my life。 To all mom-to-be's: scan the table of content and pick the Because this book is mostly structured by pregnancy timeline, I faithfully read it month by month, week by week。 But baby doesn't care about my progress with the book and made an entry in week 37, right before I got to read the delivery part。 I rushed into the hospital knowing very little about induction and C-section, probably the most important information that could have brought me peace of mind in the most intense moment of my life。 To all mom-to-be's: scan the table of content and pick the most important sections to you。 Reading this 600 page cover to cover would be a waste of time。 。。。more

I found this to be a very helpful and informative book throughout my book pregnancy。 I see a lot of negative reviews on here, but I thought it was comprehensive and thorough。 It provides a lot of information and gave me some questions to follow up with my providers on。 I suppose a lot of info can be overwhelming for some or increase anxiety, but I appreciated having something written by a medical professional to wade me through, as there are so many varying opinions online。 My OB clinic gave me I found this to be a very helpful and informative book throughout my book pregnancy。 I see a lot of negative reviews on here, but I thought it was comprehensive and thorough。 It provides a lot of information and gave me some questions to follow up with my providers on。 I suppose a lot of info can be overwhelming for some or increase anxiety, but I appreciated having something written by a medical professional to wade me through, as there are so many varying opinions online。 My OB clinic gave me a pregnancy guidebook too, and the information from this book aligned with the one from my doctor。 I’m someone that loves to learn and I felt more calm throughout the process knowing what is all considered “normal” in pregnancy。 I would recommend to people。 。。。more

Excelente guía para cualquier madre, más que todas, las primerizas!En un paso a paso, explica los sucesos del embarazo y del bebé, en cada etapa del desarrollo。A pesar de lo antiguo que es el libro, está muy actualizado。

Whoever described this as having a “chirpy, we-know-best tone” was right。 I get that it’s meant to be reassuring but the version I read (late ‘90s) completely glossed over the possibility of a poor or lethal prenatal diagnosis。 “Oh, that’s so rare and unlikely, don’t worry your pretty little head about it。” (Not an exact quote。) I sure hope they’ve updated that useless garbage to be of help to expectant parents facing a prenatal health crisis。 It happens every day and I’d like to slap the author Whoever described this as having a “chirpy, we-know-best tone” was right。 I get that it’s meant to be reassuring but the version I read (late ‘90s) completely glossed over the possibility of a poor or lethal prenatal diagnosis。 “Oh, that’s so rare and unlikely, don’t worry your pretty little head about it。” (Not an exact quote。) I sure hope they’ve updated that useless garbage to be of help to expectant parents facing a prenatal health crisis。 It happens every day and I’d like to slap the authors of this book for blithely pretending it doesn’t。 。。。more

This is a comprehensive book that presents a wide variety of useful information about pregnancy。My only constructive feedback would be to add the phrase “A Baby” to the end of the title。 Might clarify the subject matter for potential readers。

4。5/5。 What to Expect has been such a huge help for me throughout my first pregnancy。 Every stage of pregnancy is addressed and I really appreciated the postpartum chapters as well so I can have a better understanding of how I might be feeling after my baby does arrive。 I didn't give it a 5 because I would like to see an even newer edition that has inclusive language for partners or spouses, rather than just discussing what the father to be can do to help。 The sections for dads specifically are 4。5/5。 What to Expect has been such a huge help for me throughout my first pregnancy。 Every stage of pregnancy is addressed and I really appreciated the postpartum chapters as well so I can have a better understanding of how I might be feeling after my baby does arrive。 I didn't give it a 5 because I would like to see an even newer edition that has inclusive language for partners or spouses, rather than just discussing what the father to be can do to help。 The sections for dads specifically are helpful, but I feel that making the partner/spouse change would really bring What to Expect up to date completely。 Additionally, I'd like to see a section devoted to the basics of both formula feeding and breastfeeding。 It is ultimately a woman's choice how she'd like to feed her baby and I think it would be helpful to present both sides free of bias so the reader can have all the information necessary to make their own decision。 。。。more

Mandatory if you are pregnant for the first time。 It helped me understand my body & everything else thoroughly。 Some things never change。 And being pregnant & giving birth is the same now as it was when this book was first published, lol。

A good book to have on your shelf because it's thorough and a great reference tool (e。g。 index and select chapters, not cover to cover reading) but I would alert any to-be parent not to use it as their only source of information and complement it with Emily Oster or another more well-rounded source。 A good book to have on your shelf because it's thorough and a great reference tool (e。g。 index and select chapters, not cover to cover reading) but I would alert any to-be parent not to use it as their only source of information and complement it with Emily Oster or another more well-rounded source。 。。。more

One of the most comprehensive books out there, like a textbook。 Expecting dads must read this too as it has specific sections/advice for dads。I've already bought What to Expect : First Year to read after this one。 One of the most comprehensive books out there, like a textbook。 Expecting dads must read this too as it has specific sections/advice for dads。I've already bought What to Expect : First Year to read after this one。 。。。more

A bit overplayed - very full of "conventional" pregnancy wisdom without any of the data or research to back it up。。。this one reads kind of like a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book and wasn't actually particularly helpful。 (Most of this stuff is very redundant with the emails/newsletters/apps you can't avoid anyway) A bit overplayed - very full of "conventional" pregnancy wisdom without any of the data or research to back it up。。。this one reads kind of like a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book and wasn't actually particularly helpful。 (Most of this stuff is very redundant with the emails/newsletters/apps you can't avoid anyway) 。。。more

Very informative, specially for first-time moms。 I took away a star because book is redundant and uses way too many words to explain concepts。 Still a good reference for conception period, pregnancy & those first weeks postpartum。

Although full of information, this book made me feel like being pregnant was a prison sentence。 You aren't allowed to do ANYTHING。 I found a different book written by women who are both OBs and mothers and I loved that WAY more than this book。 I hope that people stop recommending this series。 There are much better resources out there that won't give you a major anxiety attack。 Although full of information, this book made me feel like being pregnant was a prison sentence。 You aren't allowed to do ANYTHING。 I found a different book written by women who are both OBs and mothers and I loved that WAY more than this book。 I hope that people stop recommending this series。 There are much better resources out there that won't give you a major anxiety attack。 。。。more

NOT JUST FOR WOMEN!Boys, if your partner is pregnant, you really ought to read this book。 Not only will you avoid some (potentially) upsetting surprises, but you will be able to anticipate your lady's needs and score some major brownie points by being an informed, caring participant in her pregnancy。 NOT JUST FOR WOMEN!Boys, if your partner is pregnant, you really ought to read this book。 Not only will you avoid some (potentially) upsetting surprises, but you will be able to anticipate your lady's needs and score some major brownie points by being an informed, caring participant in her pregnancy。 。。。more

That was quite good read。All topics were covered about pregnancy, birth and possible problems。I think that book was lacking more practical tips。

Has a LOT of general advice on all things to expect in preparing for, during and after a pregnancy so good if you want to know all possibilities, however I found it too big and not enjoyable to read。 I much preferred Up the Duff by Kaz Cooke as it's Australian and refers to more relevant resources。 Has a LOT of general advice on all things to expect in preparing for, during and after a pregnancy so good if you want to know all possibilities, however I found it too big and not enjoyable to read。 I much preferred Up the Duff by Kaz Cooke as it's Australian and refers to more relevant resources。 。。。more

Truly unsure of how to rate this book but it was hecka long and I’m selfish and want it to count towards my reading goal😂 Felt unnecessarily long at times and was truly information overload。 Don’t recommend for those who become anxious easily about symptoms and preparations needed。

A lot to read but definitely worth it。 It has everything you basically need to know。 Even though it was written years ago it does hold up to its popularity。 However。。。。 I would really like to see a new one coming out related to covid 19 and pregnancy since that changed a lot of ways things are done now。 But this book is worth it and is a must read for anyone interested in pregnancy whether you pregnant or not

People really have a love-hate relationship with this book。 As for me, I'm leaning "like。" While I prefer "Expecting Better," this book was still helpful and detailed; even if some of advice is out-dated or not evidence-based, it still contains more information than "Expecting Better。" I found it especially helpful to use the index and look up specific topics。 People really have a love-hate relationship with this book。 As for me, I'm leaning "like。" While I prefer "Expecting Better," this book was still helpful and detailed; even if some of advice is out-dated or not evidence-based, it still contains more information than "Expecting Better。" I found it especially helpful to use the index and look up specific topics。 。。。more
